senryu – who writes poems? - qui écrit des poèmes ?

who writes poems?
who me? never!
the sea’s the poet

qui écrit des poèmes ?
qui moi ? jamais !
la mer c’est le poète

chi scrive poesie?
chi io? mai!
il mare è il poeta
Richard Vallance

Thanks to a comment on Our Haiku Shack by Jean-Philippe Goetz translated into English:

A poet is anyone who writes and anyone who reads. Georges Sand once said: “Anyone who derives genuine pleasure from the sentiments aroused by poetry is a true poet even if he has never written a single verse in his life..."

Le poète est celui qui écrit et aussi celui qui lit Georges Sand a dit : "... celui qui puise de nobles jouissance(s) dans le sentiment de la poésie est un vrai poète n'eut-t'il pas écrit un seul vers de sa vie ... "

Sappho, spelled (in the dialect spoken by the poet) Psappho, (born c. 610, Lesbos, Greece — died c. 570 BCE). A lyric poet greatly admired in all ages for the beauty of her writing style.

Her language contains elements from Aeolic vernacular and poetic tradition, with traces of epic vocabulary familiar to readers of Homer. She has the ability to judge critically her own ecstasies and grief, and her emotions lose nothing of their force by being recollected in tranquillity.
